Presentation Zen

Presentations can be great and engaging or very, very, very boring.

From Students 2.0, “I would argue that the reason watching student projects can at times be excruciatingly painful is that they lack a cohesive design. Often, they represent a hodgepodge of ideas strewn together with very little thought to creating a unified whole.  However, when students begin with picking a thesis, and then work from that thesis a pattern, a design, begins to emerge. When the question for every single decision is “what supports my thesis?” those awkward transitions, strange cuts, and random transitions begin to make sense.”

Some Tips from Presentation Zen

1.  Start with good question.

2.  Use storyboard or outline.

3.  Reduce text on the screen.
 no more than 6 words a line
 no more than 6 lines a slide.

4.  Use visuals (instead of text) as a representation of your ideas.

5.  Choose a consistent background and font style.
